6pm Festival Launch & Exhibition opening

The Model, The Mall
Thread Song - an Exhibition of Textiles by members of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland. This exhibition commemorates the life and work of Nobel Prize-winning poet, William Butler Yeats, one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature.
Exhibition continues until 3 July.

Wednesday 1 June

Susie Sullivan & Ian Carty In a World of Their Own
The Cat & The Moon, Castle Street
Award winning fibre artist Susie Sullivan gets her inspiration from Irish culture, myths and fairy tales and the wild surrounding of her home in the mountains of Mayo.
Ian Carty creates beautiful ceramic art vessels which experiment with materials and explore surface, texture and colour. Discover a selection of his unique pieces which celebrate the complex and beautiful interactions of clay, glaze and smoke.

A Terrible Beauty is Born

An exhibition featuring the work of over 70 of Ireland's contemporary visual artists, responding to W.B. Yeats’ poem ‘Easter, 1916’.

6pm Petticoat EXHIBITION

Teach Ban Gallery, Drumcliffe
An exhibition of new work informed by the contribution of women to the social, economic and political life in Ireland in the early 20th century.
The exhibition is a contemporary interpretation of traditional textile techniques and will be opened by Julie Griffith. Exhibition continues until 30 June.

& ”Legacy” National Fine Art Print exhibition
Hyde Bridge Gallery, The Yeats Society Building, Hyde Bridge
Winners of the Legacy Fine art print competition will be presented with prizes by Caitríona Yeats, the granddaughter of W.B. Yeats. The ‘Legacy’ exhibition and print competition has been established in partnership with the Western Development Commission and Sligo County Council arts Service, to honour Susan Yeats in this
the 150th anniversary of her birth in Sligo.

Lily Lolly: Yeats and Sisters

A Cuala Songbook looks at the life and work of WB Yeats through the poetry, plays and songs published
by his sisters Lily and Lolly Yeats in their publishing company Cuala Press.

6.30pm Official Opening of St Angela's College BA in Textiles, Fashion and Design with Business Management Graduate Exhibition
The Factory Performance Space, Lr. quay Street
Official Launch of the Exhibition with guest speakers. Students will exhibit their graduate fashion collections and design notebooks. Come and meet the designers to talk about their work and the stories behind their collections. Exhibition runs from 13 - 17 June.

7-9.30pm Exploring Texturing and Structure in Fashion, Textile and Product Design
St. Angela’s College, Lough Gill
Join award winning fashion designer Rebecca Marsden for a hands on evening of material manipulation and textile development, exploring texture and structural form.

8pm Lily and Lolly - the Japanese Connection
Talk by Sean Golden
The Factory Performance Space, Lr. quay Street
Lily Yeats was interested in Buddhism for its affinities with Sligo folklore while Lolly Yeats published texts advocating Japanese brushwork for children. Both sisters worked closely with Pamela Colman Smith whose studies of Japanese art influenced their aesthetic. The Japanese connection is a little-explored facet of Lily’s and Lolly’s craft work.

10 – 1pm Introduction to Hand Dyeing Workshop with Emer Maher Dowling
St. Angela’s College, Lough Gill
Learn to apply colour and pattern to fabrics and yarn through a variety of dyeing techniques. Create your own uniquely dyed fabrics and yarns for your textile, fashion and craft projects.
An introductory level workshop from age 12 upwards -

3.30pm & 4.30pm Myth and Magic: Storytelling and Art

"Come away, oh Human Child". Join Fantasy Illustrator Wayne O Connor in an Art workshop inspired by Irish Mythology that in turn so greatly inspired Yeats. Learn about the ways of the Sidhe, the ancient Faerie Folk and learn how to draw them.

6pm Eddie Shanahan in Conversation
with Designers - Leonie Cornelius, Martina Hamilton, Joseph Martin, Rebecca Marsden and Ashleigh Smith
The Factory Performance Space, Lr. quay Street
Eddie Shanahan is Chairperson of the Council of Irish Fashion Designers, a director of the Leitrim Design House and a member of the Industry Advisory Board at the Limerick School of Art & Design. He specialises in business and product development for the fashion, craft, home wares and retail sectors.

 

Saturday 18 June

10 -5pm Day 1 - Kenmare Lace Masterclass & Workshop with Nora Finnegan 
Nazareth Care Village
Make a sampler including Brussels Point, Chord stitch, Pop and Shell stitch with Kenmare lace expert Nora Finnegan. Participants will complete a floral piece using these stitches. The more experienced lace makers will advance to more complicated filling stitches and grounds. Charge €10 per day per participant.

Followed by Children’s Creative Workshop (+8 yrs) – Hawk’s Well Theatre, Temple Street
Children’s creative workshop in the Hawk’s Well Theatre, suitable for children aged 8yrs+. Take a wander in the local landscape to discover its unique history and diverse eco-system. Together we explore knowledge of "wild" foods, the mythical and practical mysteries of trees and the plant and mushroom communities that grow below their canopy. €10 per child. Primary Colours is an exciting children’s art education programme developed around the primary school visual arts curriculum. The programme is delivered by a panel of practicing artists on behalf of Sligo County Council Arts Service. Booking open to all primary school groups. 3rd – 6th class. 2.30 - 4pm Mono Printing Workshop for Adults with Catherine Fanning –
